How to Convert Classic Dynamics NAV Customized Report to Extensions Automatically
Please find all questions and answers below
Q: Is this tool is useful for Dynamics 365 Business Central 16.00 version?
A: Yes, you can simply convert the reports to AL format. It will be suitable for all Business Central versions. On the other hand, if you are talking about the tool itself, it works on all NAV versions from 2015 up to the Business Central 14.00 version. So the tool itself can only be used on the RTC environment yet.
Q: Is this tool also caters to deprecated things? Like removed and obsolete fields?
A: It’s not doing any deprecated fields cleaning in order to make reports easier to fix.
Q: Can you use the tool for free?
A: If you want to install the tool in your Business Central environment, you can do that for free. You can download it either from Simplanova’s FTP server or official mibuso page and install it in your system. If you would like to use the tool while converting the reports, that part is not free of charge. However, for testing purposes, we can provide you with the trial license, which will allow you to convert some of the reports that you are going to choose.
Q: What about Request Form or Page? Will it be taken care of by the tool?
A: Request forms are converted to request pages by the tool.
Q: If we have a report in RDLC and we want to convert it to the word format? Can the tool do it by itself?
A: In my knowledge, there are no such tools that convert from Classic to RDLC on AL.
Q: What is the major advantage of the report converter to the default Txt2AL tool?
A: The advantage is that you can convert directly from Classic to AL, you don’t need to take any additional steps. Also, it makes a couple of minor fixes on the go. You will get better results that just with Txt2AL Tool.
Q: Does the tool support multiple languages? For example, if the report had translations for two or more languages, does the tool create the correct translation files to all languages?
A: It will create language files for all languages.
Q: How do we add filters on the request page just before printing the report on the WebClient environment?
A: Well, it’s the same as in C/AL.
Q: Does the tool convert non-RDLC reports using sections instead?
A: It converts Classic reports to RDLC, and moves RDLC reports to AL language.
