The following questions have been explored during the online session:
- How to pick the right upgrade path: a fresh start, as-is or smart upgrade option?
- How to efficiently save time on customer consulting effort?
- How to scope the upgrade and delegate tasks?
- How to manage 1 TB database migration?
- How to make the best out of the object conversion and when to move code to extensions?
- What things could go wrong?

Please find all questions and answers below
Q: Have you recorded a webinar, I had problem with internet conection.
A: Yes, the webinar can be found here: https://bit.ly/2HyJ0yC
Q: Is the Report converter able to create .al or *app files ? Or process should be Old report – New report txt file – txt2al tool – al files?
A: Yes, the process would be C/SIDE report – RDLC report – txt2al tool – al files.
Q: I need to move some ISV Add-ons to Business Central Extensions. Do you do this too?
A: Yes, we can help you with moving your add-ons to Business Central Extensions. Please contact email@example.com and we will respond with information about the quoting process.
Q: My interest is to convert our ISV Add-ons to Extensions 2.0 for NAV 2018 and have the same Extension work for BC too. Is this possible? All of our code has been moved to Events with Subscribers and Publishers, but not to Extensions yet.
A: Yes, it is possible to do that. As soon as you have the add-on on Extensions 2.0 it will work for D365BC, too. However, you will not be able to publish it on Appsource unless you go through the validation process. Your customers will be able to use the extension individually.
Q: Do you use standard microsoft code merging tool or you use any other tools?
A: We use our own modified version of the MergeTool.
Q: For what technical versions is the object usage tool available?
A: The oldest version we know the object usage tool works is Navision 3.70. It may also work on older versions – we suggest trying it out.
Q: Do you think it is useful to upgrade existing code to NAV365BC without a lot of re-design because of new technical possibilities (e.g. events) and the code redesign that Microsoft did in NAV2017 / NAV0218?
A: We would recommend upgrading existing code to C/AL and only then rewrite it using events and VSCode because we find it more efficient that way. Other way would be reimplementing the solution and writing the new code using events and VSCode which is a good way, too, when the business process has changed so that the customer needs reimplementation. We would not upgrade the solution as-is and rewrite the code at the same time.
Q: Will this be applicable for someone who is building a Localization?
A: Yes, D365BC Cloud Version limitations will apply for a localization – there will be no possibility to use C/AL and .NET. For the D365BC On-prem version you can still use the old methods but we recommend start preparing your add-ons on extensions since C/AL will eventually disappear.
Q: Hello. You’ve said that you can migrate the database in two steps for the GO Live. How did you that ? How did you identified the differences? Thank you very much in advance. Great presentation. We’ve most of the things here we’ve confronted also 🙂
A: 1. Data migration performed by SQL Scripts 2. In migration codeunit we have filtered data (which was processed) to date (a.e. Entry No. for ledger entries, etc.).
Q: How do you convert an extension on NAV 2018 on current Business Central as extension
A: You will ont need to upgrade it, it will work on Business Central.
Q: If i am an ISV and want to upgrade my solution how can you help me?
A: Yes, we can help you upgrade your solution or build an extension from your solution. Please write to firstname.lastname@example.org for a quote.
Q: From which version do you provide upgrades?
A: Simplanova provides upgrade starting Navision 2.60.
Q: Can I also ask for an upgrade to 2018 without the upgrade to extensions?
A: Yes, you can still upgrade to NAV 2018 and D365 Business Central without building extensions.
Q: How much does the Report Converter cost?
A: Please write to email@example.com for the pricing information.
Q: Hi, for the report conversion tool, does it make difference if reports are NAV standard or custom made?
A: You can convert both standard and custom made reports using Simplanova Report Converter.
